Update – Another Opportunity
Last night I received a text message from a Liberian pastor here in Monrovia, and he told me that their Christian school was getting together with 6 other Christian schools on Friday. One of the things on the agenda is a 30 minute preaching time in the morning, and he asked me to preach for it! They are expecting up to 1,000 students to be present for that. Please pray for wisdom in preparation and clarity in presentation.
I went to the meeting this morning and was given an opportunity to preach the clear Gospel. My text was from Matthew 7:21-23, which is the passage that God used to bring me to the point of seeing that my faith was not in Him but in my actions, and showed me that I needed to be saved.
After preaching the message and telling the students to please come and talk to me or one of the other preachers afterward if they needed to be saved, I prayed and turned the service over to the host pastor. He then invited any students that were not saved but needed to be to raise their hands. Those who raised their hands were then invited to stand and bow in prayer with him as he led them in a pattern “sinners prayer” for them to repeat. He emphasized the importance of the decision being not just words that we say, but a faith that comes from the heart.
In all, we both estimated that about 100 young people made a profession of faith this morning! It is my prayer that those that were genuinely saved today, would become a part of a Bible preaching local church near them. It is also my prayer that if any were insincere or going through the motions to impress me or their friends, that the Word that was preached today would convict them of their need for a genuine faith in the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
